Adina's Cakery celebrates sweet grand opening

DELRAY BEACH — Business is sweet for Adina Serell.  But then, how it could be otherwise for someone known as “The Cake Lady?”

Serell is the owner/operator of Adina’s Cakery, which makes special-occasion cakes intended to be both visual and culinary masterpieces. Serell, with the help of the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce and city officials, cut the ribbon on the new venture Wednesday evening. 

Serell’s roots in the business go back to her childhood, baking with her grandmother. She graduated with a degree in fine arts from the Pratt Institute and has taken course work in baking and pastries. Serell’s made cakes professionally for several years but mainly for event planners. Recently, she decided it was time to step out on her own.

“I always wanted to do this,” Serell said. “It’s a dream come true for me.”

Serell maintains an office in downtown Delray Beach, where she can meet with clients. She does the baking in a commercial kitchen in Boca Raton. Cakes are baked to order and with the best ingredients to ensure quality, Serell said.

Prices range from $3 or $4 a slice to $9 or $10 a slice depending on the size and type of cake.

Serell is the sole employee of the business, although her husband, Bruce, handles IT issues. Her plans are eventually to open a store in Delray Beach.
