DELRAY BEACH — The combination of a free Amber Leigh concert and Delray’s first food truck expo proved a powerful attraction as thousands packed Old School Square Friday evening.
The event was the first of a series of free concerts at Old School Square that will run each Friday evening through Dec. 30. Leigh, who first made her mark at Boston’s on the Beach in Delray a decade ago and has become a local favorite, will also close out the series.
“Delray Beach, our home town!” Leigh said to her dad, Randy James Weddle, who plays acoustic guitar in her band. “How cool is that!”
Gourmet Truck Expo of Deerfield Beach arranged the food truck expo, which included 15 independent vendors, each with a different cuisine — everything pizza to barbeque to Latin to local produce and proteins.
The free concert series continues Friday evening at 7 p.m. with Ever So Klver, a swing band. The food truck expo returns Oct. 28. Also scheduled:
— The Hard Liquor Band, classic rock, on Oct. 28.
— The Resolvers, alternative reggae, Nov. 4.
— The Five Boroughs, a doo-wop group, Nov. 11.
— Playeros, latin rock, Nov. 18.
— The Valerie Tyson Band, rhythm and blues, Nov. 25.
— The Blue Fire Band, high energy mix, Dec. 2.
— The Dillengers, rock-a-billy/surf, Dec. 9.
— To be announced, Dec. 16.
— The People Upstairs, funk reggae, Dec. 23.
— Amber Leigh, crossover country, Dec. 30.
