Blake dispatches Ivanisevic at Delray Beach Open; world stars prevail

DELRAY BEACH — James Blake did his part. The rest of Team USA didn't, as a team of international stars defeated the Americans 6-3 in the ATP Champions Tour competition of the Delray Beach Open by the Venetian Las Vegas.

Blake beat Goran Ivanisevic 6-7(3), 6-1 (10-4) in the final match of the tournament. Blake produced the only victories for Team USA, winning all three of his matches. The tournament began Friday.
The tournament was the first for Blake, 35, on the Champion's tour, but far from his first appearance at Delray Beach. Blake and fellow American Jack Sock won the doubles competition here two years ago. He was also a finalist twice in the ATP World Tour portion of the Open.
Ivanisevic was part of last year's Champion's Tour competition at Delray, and coached World Tour winner Milan Celic.
Also Sunday, Australian and former Delray Beach resident Mark Philippousis beat American Brad Gilbert 6-2, 6-4, and Mikael Pernfors of Sweden beat Team USA's Justin Gimelstob 6-4, 4-6(6), clinching the win for the international stars.
On Monday, competition begins in the doubles tournament, while the World Tour singles players take to the stadium court for the first time.

Tournament top-seed and former Delray champion Kevin Anderson of South Africa and second seed John Isner debut in the tournament on Tuesday. Anderson is a Gulfstream resident. John Isner is the highest ranked American player.
