Broward residents sentenced for mortgage scam

FORT LAUDERDALE — Four Broward men received prison sentences Friday for their roles in a $16 million mortgage scam that involved real estate in Broward and Palm Beach counties.  A Broward woman received probation for her role in the same scheme.

The five were charged with one count of conspiracy, 11 counts of mail fraud, 13 counts of wire fraud and eight counts of making a false statement to a government agency. Two defendants were charged with obstructing justice. Not all defendants were charged in all counts.

According to the indictment, the five bought and sold property in Broward and Palm Beach counties by securing loans using false documents. The total dollar amount of the loans secured under the scheme totaled more than $16 million dollars.
