DELRAY BEACH — City Commissioner Jose Rodriguez emerged as Boynton Beach’s next mayor and Fred Fetzer won a third term on Delray Beach City Commission in municipal elections Tuesday.
Results for all races were unofficial on the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections website.
Rodriguez, Boynton’s vice mayor and a member of the city commission since 2006 defeated a crowded field, picking up 1,888 votes, or 35.49 percent of the ballots cast. Brian Edwards, a retired Marine and a senior planner with Palm Beach County, had 1,687 votes, or about 31.71 percent of the total. Ronald Weiland, a city commissioner, came in third, with 948 votes, or 17.73 percent of the total. Four other candidates split about 800 votes.
Rodriguez will replace Jerry Taylor, who has served since 2003.
In the race for the district 3 commission seat, attorney and newcomer Steven Holzman defeated Mark Karageorge, a community manager with Greystar Management Services, by 764 votes, or 58.77 percent of the total, to 536, or 41.23 percent.
In Delray Beach, Fetzer, an engineer and retired BellSouth director, handily beat lawyer Darin Mellinger, 2,017 to 671. The contest was the only one of the city ballot. Angeleta Gray, who was appointed to the commission last summer to replace Mack Bernard, was unopposed in her bid to win a full two-year term.
