DELRAY BEACH —  Argentine Juan Martin del Potro and American Mardy Fish easily won their matches Friday night to move on to the semifinals of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

Earlier in the day, Kei Nishikori of Japan beat American Ryan Sweeting 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 and Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia beat Ivan Dodig of Croatia 7-6, 6-1 for the other two spots in the semis. Nishikori, the 2008 tournament champion, will play Tipsarevic at 2 p.m.

In Friday evening matches, Fish, the tournament’s no. 2 seed, beat Colombia’s Alejandro Falla 6-1, 6-4, while Del Potro defeated Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-4. The two will square off at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

“I’ll take it,” Fish said after the match. “I came out and took advantage of a few errors he gave me and played pretty clean.”

Fish, who grew up in Vero Beach and attended school in Boca Raton, said his goals at this point in his career is to finish at least once in the top 10 in the world, to be on a winning Davis Cup team and to win at least one major tournament.

“Getting married, moving on in life made me realize I have something more to play for besides myself,” Fish said. “Maybe some of it is realizing I don’t have that many more good years left.”

In the nightcap, Anderson gave del Potro his toughest match of the tournament but the Argentine still seemed in total control throughout.

For del Potro, it will be his third semifinal in as many weeks. He called Fish a tough opponent.

“We’ve played many times,” del Potro said. “I’ve always lost.”
