Political action committee endorses McDuffie for Delray mayor
DELRAY BEACH — The Delray Economic Leaders Political Action Committee has endorsed Woodie McDuffie for mayor. The election is Tuesday.
DELPAC also endorsed city commission candidates Gary Eliopoulos and Adam Frankel.
McDuffie, the vice mayor and member of the city commission, is running against Chuck Halberg, a Delray contractor and a member of the city’s planning and zoning board and parking management advisory board.
Mayor Rita Ellis declined to seek a second term in office.
Eliopoulos, an incumbent commissioner, is being challenged by Shelly Petrolia.
Frankel, a lawyer, is running against Joe Ferrer, owner of the Sunset Entertainment Group Inc.
Incumbent commissioner Mackenson Bernard won election when an opponent failed to get enough signatures to be placed on the ballot. Bernard was appointed to the seat last summer, replacing Brenda Montague, who moved to California.
Both commissioners and mayor serve two-year terms.
DELPAC released a brief statement with its endorsements:
“DELPAC supports candidates who show the experience, intelligence and sensitivity to solve community problems. DELPAC supports the following candidates because we believe they meet that criteria and have the leadership qualities to manage and guide the city of Delray Beach through this difficult economy.”
