Delray Beach library kicks off centennial celebration

DELRAY BEACH — The Delray Beach Public Library kicked off its Centennial celebration year on its’ 99th birthday, April 11, with a ceremony and party to debut the Library’s Centennial banners and officially begin the activities to celebrate this milestone.
More than 75 community members including: City officials, library board members and volunteers and community dignitaries attended the event, which included music, a cocktail reception sponsored by Sundy House and a centennial cake provided by Publix Supermarkets.
Among the guests were Centennial Committee Chairpersons, Joann Haros, a member of the Woman’s Club formerly known as the Ladies Improvement Association that began the Library in 1913 and involved community member Dorothy MacDiarmid.
The celebration is the first of seies of events planned for the centennial year. Summer events already scheduled include:
The Library’s mission is to foster the love of reading, to encourage lifelong learning and to provide a comprehensive range of library materials and services for adults, young adults and children.

More than 75 guests gathered at the library to celebrate the event, including members of the Delray Beach City Commission and the Community Redevelopment Agency.
The Centennial Banners will hang over the library for the next 12 months. The address of the library, appropriately enough, is 100 W. Atlantic.
