Broward woman gets prison for tax scam involving marines

By Palm Beach Business.com

FORT LAUDERDALE — A federal judge has sentenced a Broward County woman who scammed U.S. marines by filing fraudulent tax returns in their name to 70 months in prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Dorothy Boulin also must serve three years of supervised release following her prison sentence. Last April, Boulin pleaded guilty to one count each of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

According to court documents, Boulin, using a list of marines, complete with names and Social Security numbers, filed six fraudulent tax returns online, five of which were made without the consent of the persons involved. The five returns sought refunds of about $21,300.

Two days later, Boulin filed eight more returns, seven of which were made without the consent of the persons involved. Refunds sought totaled more than $32,600.
