DELRAY BEACH — Nearly 50 residents of The Hamlet, a Delray Beach community, some with their children and most with their pets, recently held a Walk/Run to benefit the Animal Care and Control Clinic in Belle Glade. Many more members who could not participate made donations.

The event raised more than $3,000 for the clinic in addition to hundreds of pounds of food. The West County Animal Care and Control Clinic has been seeking donations of dog and cat food for indigent owners of dogs and cats.

Many of these residents in the Glades are unable to feed their pets on a regular basis. Many animals are fed scraps, fend for themselves or simply go hungry.

“In these trying economic times, sometimes we forget about the innocent animals who become victims of the economy,” said Toby-Ann Bier, long-time member of The Hamlet and animal lover.  “It is imperative that we give assistance to those in most need whether two legged or four.”

Bier personally delivered the donations at the Clinic’s Grand Opening.

“The response by our community was wonderful to see,” said Lisa Chiappetta, a Club member.  “The Hamlet is a pet friendly community and helping animals is as important to us as helping any other charity.”

Donations of dog or cat food to stock a “food bank” to assist the people in the areas of Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay may be dropped of at the Animal Care and Control Clinic.  They accept either canned or dry food of any type.
