Unemployment falls in Florida, Palm Beach County

By Palm Beach Business.com

DELRAY BEACH — Florida’s jobless rate fell in November, according to a report released Friday morning by the state Department of Economic Opportunity.

The November rate jobless rate fell in Palm Beach County as well, as seasonal hiring picked up, but held steady in Broward.

Florida’s rate dropped to 10.0 percent in November, down from 10.4 percent in October and 11.9 percent in November 2010. The actual number out of work fell to 926,000 from 956,000 a month earlier. That number only includes those actively seeking work and not those who have become discouraged and dropped out of the  jobs market.

State numbers are adjusted for seasonal factors that affect the jobs market.

In Palm Beach County, the jobless rate fell to 10.1 percent in November from 10.3 percent a month earlier and 12.3 percent in November 2010. The number out of work: 62,316, down from 63,981 in October.

The Broward County rate held steady at 8.9 percent; a year ago, it sat at 10.7 percent.
