DELRAY BEACH — With leadership comes responsibility to the greater good, Mayor Woodie McDuffie told the 2011-13 class of Leadership Delray Monday evening during a graduation ceremony at The Arts Garage.
“You guys are the leaders,” McDuffie said. “Every decision you make should be what’s better for the city of Delray Beach, not what’s better for ‘me’ or what’s better for a small special interest group.
“It’s an opportunity to serve and give back to the community in which you live.”
Leadership Delray is a 10-month program conducted annually by the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce in order to develop leaders for both city government and community organizations, including the chamber itself. Chamber Chairwoman Kimberly Camejo is a 2009 graduate of the program.
The program provides class members with an inside look at both city and county governments and various aspects of the community, including local history, arts and culture and media.
Also on hand for Monday’s ceremony were three former Delray Beach mayors, David Schmidt, Jeff Perlman and Jay Alperin.
