Magic Beauty celebrates its grand opening

DELRAY BEACH — Ok, a spa and beauty salon. That’s been done. But a spa, a beauty salon and a dance studio wrapped up into a single business?

Now that’s something different.

And it all makes perfect business sense to Marie Victorin, the owner of Magic Beauty in the Marketplace of Delray shopping center on West Atlantic Avenue. Magic Beauty celebrated its grand opening Wednesday evening with members of the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce on hand for the occasion.

“We make you beautiful from the inside out,” Victorin said.

“Everywhere you turn around, people complain that the economy is bad. They’re afraid they’re going to lose their job,” Victorin said. “It’s about time we do something joyful.”

Spend a few minutes with Victorin and you know she means it. Her enthusiasm and energy spills out. She’s been in the beauty business before, but this her first venture into dance.

She figured if she was going to spend the hours it takes to run a business, then she needed a space to indulge her passion.

“I just love to dance,” Victorin said. “It’s like it’s in my blood. I can’t help it. I must have a place to dance.”

It took more than a year for Victorin to get her business up and running, in part because of permitting delays with the city. The physical space used to be a deli, but has been carefully renovated to give both sides of the business a comfortable feel.

The business employs 10, four on the beauty side, six on the dance side.

On hand for Wednesday’s grand opening were Mike Malone, president of the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce, and Gregg Weiss, chairman of the chamber.
