West Palm Beach woman guilty of preparing false tax returns

WEST PALM BEACH — A federal jury has found a West Palm Beach woman guilty of preparing and filing fraudulent tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service.
Marvel Ebanks of West Palm Beach faces the possibility of prison after the jury found her guilty of 25 counts of assisting and advising in the preparation of fraudulent income tax returns to the IRS, plus five counts of filing fraudulent returns. Ebanks’ sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 2.
According to court records, Ebanks owned Marvelous Enterprises Inc, a tax return preparation business in Palm Beach County. Ebanks prepared tax returns that claimed refunds based on nonexistent expenses or inflated itemized deductions. Eubanks typically sent only the signature page of the returns to her clients, who were unaware that she used false information inflate their refunds.
Court records also showed that Ebanks under-reported her own income to the IRS between 2003 and 2007 by omitting the income she received from her business..
Ebanks faces a maximum of three years in prison on each.
