Unemployment drops sharply in Palm Beach County

DELRAY BEACH — Unemployment dropped sharply in Palm Beach County last month, while holding steady statewide, according to Florida’s Agency for Workforce Innovation.
The jobless rate for Palm Beach County dropped to 11.7 percent in October from 12.4 percent in September. A year ago, the rate sat at 11.9 percent.
The statewide rate remained flat at 11.9 percent, same as September; a year ago, the rate was 11.4 percent.
Much of the drop in Palm Beach County’s rate was likely due to seasonal factors, as employers start gearing up for the annual onslaught of tourists and snow birds, and the upcoming holidays.
The Florida number is adjusted to take seasonal factors into consideration.
More to come later.
