By Palm Beach Business.com

WEST PALM BEACH — A Sears in West Palm Beach and a Kmart in Pompano Beach are among the 79 underperforming stores Sears Holdings will be closing, the company announced Thursday.

No date has been announced for the closings and the number of employees affected wasn’t disclosed.  The West Palm Sears is at 4560 Forest Hill Blvd., while the Kmart is at 2421 N. Federal Highway in Pompano.

Sears also operates stores under its flagship brand at the Boynton Beach Mall and Town Center Mall in Boca Raton as well as Lake Worth, Coral Springs and Pompano beach but none wasre on Thursday’s ‘to be closed’ list.

The company has Kmarts in Boca Raton, Lantana, Lake Park and West Palm Beach in Palm Beach County, and in Oakland Park, Davie, Hollywood and Pembroke Pines in Broward in addition to the Pompano Beach store that is closing.

Sears announced earlier this week that it would close between 100 and120 underperforming stores. Altogether, 11 Sears and Kmarts are closing in Florida, according to the list released Thursday.

Sears said its flagship Sears stores were down 6 percent in the current quarter through Christmas and down 4.4 percent at Kmart stores through the same period. Sales at both stores are down for the year as well.
