DELRAY BEACH — In recent years, Spodak Dental Group has played host to the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce at least three times, Thursday evening being the latest.
And perhaps the last — at Spodak’s present office.
That’s because Spodak, one of the largest dental practices in South Palm Beach County, is scheduled to break ground on a new, larger building in late August or earlier September. If all goes well, the firm’s 35 employees, including eight dentists and an anesthesiologist, should find themselves in their new professional home just a bit east of their present location on West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, Spodak Chief Operating Officer Michael Greene said.
The new building will nearly triple the slightly less than 5,000 square feet that now houses the practice. It will also allow Spodak to expand its staff probably to 42, including one additional dentist.
Dr. Myles Spodak started the practice and constructed the present building in 1976. His son, Craig Spodak, also a dentist, is overseeing work on the new site, which promises to be state of the art in more ways than one, Greene said.
It will be Leeds Certified as a green building. It will lighted by 25 or 30 solar tubes that will pour sunlight throughout, and will give the interior a light and airy feel. There will be windows throughout the building, so that every room will have a few of the exterior.
The parking lot will be made of a porous material, with a water filtering and collection system underneath that will provide irrigation.
“It will be a very pure building,” Greene said.
